Yes! Demand for sustainability professionals is already outpacing supply, and this gap is expected to grow even further over the coming decades. According to LinkedIn’s Global Green Skills Report 2024:
  • Global demand for green talent grew twice as quickly as supply between 2023 and 2024.
  • By 2030 one in five jobs will lack the green talent to fill it.
  • By 2050, this gap will balloon to one in two jobs.

Should I study the Certificate IV in Environmentally Sustainable Management, or the Diploma of Sustainable Operations?
Great question! Many of our students choose to study the Certificate IV in Environmentally Sustainable Management followed by the Diploma of Sustainable Operations. You can think of Certificate IV in Environmentally Sustainable Management as being a good entry point into learning sustainability. It can be completed within 1 year and offers flexible online study options for domestic students (Australia/New Zealand citizens, and Australian Permanent Residents). This qualification builds foundational skills in areas such as using Environmental Management Systems, minimising a business’s carbon emissions, understanding WHS laws and developing waste management and energy efficiency plans. On the other hand, the Diploma of Sustainable Operations builds more advanced skills in managing aspects of an organisation’s sustainability. For example, it builds skills in conducting audits, developing sustainability business cases and navigating environmental reporting requirements. This course takes 18 months to complete. Starting with a Diploma of Sustainable Operations can be a good choice if you already have some existing experience in environmental management, or if you’re looking to pair a Diploma with an Advanced Diploma.
