Certificate IV in Environmentally Sustainable Management

What you will study

Over the course of this qualification, you’ll build your ability to evaluate and reduce an organisation’s environmental impact.  

You’ll learn how to calculate a business’ carbon footprint as well as how to assess its waste, energy efficiency and work practices. You’ll also discover how to create waste management plans, carbon reduction strategies and energy efficiency plans. Alongside this, you’ll develop your ability to analyse environmental risks and plan how to manage them, as well as to investigate and introduce more sustainable work practices. 
 
By studying the Certificate IV in Environmentally Sustainable Management, you’ll also build your knowledge of important environmental concepts. You’ll learn how Australia’s key emission sources and energy systems work. And you’ll gain an understanding of major Australian and global sustainability rating tools and how their categories and credits are applied in practice. 

As part of this qualification, you’ll also develop you understanding of Work Health and Safety (WHS) requirements and what Australian businesses must do to comply them. Building your skills in Work Health and Safety (WHS) can open doors to jobs in the Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) space.

Units of competency in this course

As part of the Certificate IV in Environmentally Sustainable Management, you’ll study eight units of competency. You can think of each unit of competency as being a different subject. Each unit will build your skills and knowledge in a valuable area of sustainability.

When can I start and finish studying? 

ACBI offers intakes that start at the beginning of each month. This Certificate IV program has designed to be completed within 1 year. 

When you study with ACBI, you’ll enjoy a flexible, 100% online study format. This means that you’ll receive a 12-month study plan when you start your course and you’ll have the flexibility to work through your learning and assessment materials in your own time. Depending on your work and life commitments, you may be able to finish your Certificate IV in less than 12 months. For example, some of ACBI’s graduates have completed their Certificate IV qualification in nine months or less.

How can I study this course?

The program is delivered 100% online, giving you the flexibility to study from anywhere while balancing your work and life commitments. You’ll have access to weekly live online support sessions with your trainer. These are designed to help you stay on track with your assessments as well as allow you to ask questions in real time and receive personalised learning support as you progress through the course.

  • Comprehend Work Health and Safety (WHS) laws and what Australian businesses need to do to comply with them

Course prerequisites

This program has no formal entry prerequisites, making it accessible to Amazon team members from a wide range of roles and backgrounds. Whether you are new to sustainability or looking to deepen your existing knowledge, you can enrol and build practical, job-ready green skills without needing prior study in this area.

Entry requirements

  • Have completed Australian Year 10 (or equivalent)
  • Be at least 16 years of age
  • Have technological literacy (ability to use and access a computer with word processing applications)

You will need access to a computer with a reliable internet connection in order to complete this qualification.

Note: You may also have an initial interview to assess your individual learning needs and your language, literacyand numeracy skills. 

Course costs

Amazon employees participating through the Career Choice program are encouraged to confirm that they have sufficient funding available for their selected course. Tuition fees for ACBI’s Certificate IV in Environmentally Sustainable Management are covered through Amazon’s Career Choice benefits, up to the remaining budget available for the year.

Before enrolling, please check your current Career Choice balance by logging in to the A to Z portal. This will help ensure you have adequate funding for the full duration of your studies with ACBI.
